This week’s E-Learning Challenge from the Articulate E-Learning Heroes Community was Creating Interactive 360° Photos in E-Learning.  360° images are a new public beta feature being offered in Storyline 360.  How exciting to test out a new feature!

After choosing a beautiful photo of Bastia on the Island of Corsica, I hopped onto YouTube to watch David Anderson‘s video “Creating Interactive 360° Panoramic Images in Storyline 360“.  I knew I wanted to also add a lightbox, so I was thankful to find Mark Spermon‘s video “Create Lightboxes in Storyline 360“.  For the audio, I used the option within Storyline to directly record myself.

My only frustration with this project is Storyline’s lack of a background music option.  In the end, I looped the background audio in Audacity then added it to the main layer.  For the lightbox and the credits slide, I added the audio individually on each.

This was my first time working with a 360° photo and I really enjoyed it!  Scroll down to interact directly with the project and learn some new words!

Community Feedback

Articulate’s E-Learning Heroes community chose my project as an e-Learning example:

“Take a 360° look around this seaside port to learn how to say common words in Spanish and Esperanto. This Storyline 360 example uses customized markers and audio content to make learning a language dynamic and fun.”

It’s also being used as a course resource in Articulate’s training: Using 360° Images in Storyline 360.  What an honor!

My wonderfully talented friend, Jim McKinley Brown, also said he was inspired by this project to create his own interactive 360° project: A Tour of the Church of St. Archangel Michael formerly the Carmelite Church.

“I was inspired by Bela Gaytan and the eLearning Community Challenge to design a course using the new 360-degree photo interaction now in beta version in Storyline 360. Bela designed a Spanish & Esperanto Vocabulary lesson using this new interactive tool.”

Be sure to check out his project – it’s fantastic and it definitely put this on my travel bucket list, for sure!
